So what is an Op-Amp?
Op-Amp is short for Operational Amplifier. In simplistic terms, it's the magic little IC chip inside most of the Firestone components. Its job is to boost the weak input signal to a much stronger signal and ensure this more powerful signal remains an exact copy of the original. It's kind of the Solid State counterpart to the Power Tube in a Tube Amp.
In many of the Firestone components the Op-Amps are changeable, so its something you can swap out to tune and tweak the sound of your component.
Single Channel Op-Amps vs. Dual Channel Op-Amps
All Firestone components use a dual channel Op-Amp to achieve stereo output. Some of the Op-Amps offered on this page are single channel Op-Amps. This means you'll need to use two single channel Op-Amps for stereo output. This requires an dual to mono adapter. Enter the OPA104 Adapter.
The OPA104 adaptor allows a pair of single channel Op-Amps to fit where one, dual channel unit existed before.
The OPA104 adapter accepts two single channel Op-Amps and plugs directly into the original socket.
